Why Are We Afraid of this Two-Letter Word?

“A rejection is nothing more than a necessary step in the pursuit of success.” – Bo Bennett

It would be nice if we hear YES whenever we ask for something. But hearing NO is just as important as hearing YES. When we hear NO it is really easy to…

Feel Rejected…

Feel Unqualified…

Feel Unwanted…

Feel Unappreciated…

Feel Lonely…

I have a dare for you. Instead of seeing NO as a bad thing, what if the next time you heard a NO, you actually heard MAYBE NEXT TIME?

“Every time I thought I was being rejected from something good, I was actually being re-directed to something better.” – Steve Maraboli

Every pitch might not result in a yes or that next job interview might not get you the job but there are three very important things to remember the next time you hear a NO:

  1. You Are More than Enough – When many people hear NO then they believe it is a “negative” reflection of themselves. Once you start aligning the NO to your inherent self-worth, you’re projecting more from the NO than what it actually is. I ask you this: what do you get out of fixating on this negative path of thought? Nothing. So if you’re reason is that you can’t help it — then do something drastic to force yourself to not dwell. Go take a cold shower, go for an intense run…go do SOMETHING that will distract you. Chances are, once you finish that activity, that NO won’t seem as bad.
  2. You Have No Clue– Sometimes we have to hear a NO because it is the Universe’s way of directing us in new directions. The Universe works in mysterious ways and as smart as we think we are — we truly know nothing when it comes to why things happen. When you start accepting this, then it’s easier for you to apply your own positive/optimistic meaning to things that happen. Either way, you have no idea if you’re right – so why not choose the path with the most upside?
  3. Don’t be a Passenger – When we take control of our own emotions and thinking, we become the drivers of our lives. As cliche as that sounds, it’s true. Whenever we allow someone else’s words or actions to impact our minds, then we’ve given over control to them of our free will. The world will exist and go one regardless of whether I’m brooding or looking at the upside, the only one that’s impact in either case is me and my enjoyment of life. This advice is only for those willing to take it.

We each have the ability to change our lives and our ways of thinking/reacting. It’ll require practice and discipline to get to a point where the NOs roll off your back and extract any lessons from the experience.

It’ll be hard, it may not happen right away, but if you trust the system — you’ll get the reward.

I'd love to say this to my mom, but I'm too afraid!

We can't fear saying no when it is a must. Happy to talk more about this. You can email me at Natasha@www.dressingroom8.com
