Meet the Bombshell Behind Candied Curves!

I met the fabulous Ally Gursky, the blogger behind Candied Curves, at Full Figured Fashion Week: Celebrate My Size Plus Model Magazine Expo this summer.

She is a performer and body positive blogger hailing from Orlando, Florida. She likes long walks on the beach and Thin Mint cookies : )

You can keep up with her HERE!

Check out my interview with Ally below to learn more about this bodacious lady!

Natasha: How did you become a blogger?

Ally: I started pairing outfits together and people came up to me complimenting me on my look and I was being asked to go shopping with several of my friends. One of my friends suggested that I should start blogging and sharing my different looks. On Candied Curves, I show that you can look good without having to spend a lot of money.

Natasha: What does your blog stand for? What is the focus of Candied Curves

Ally: I want to help people feel confident in their own skin. You can control how you are perceived. Sometimes you might not feel good all the time. And, that is OK!  It is important that people realize that they are not alone.  At first, I thought my target audience for the blog was women who 18-25 wearing a sizes 10-16 with an hourglass figure like myself. But, the blog is expanding that audience which I am so excited about.  It is really turning into a lifestyle blog.

Natasha: At Full Figured Fashion Week, you mentioned how important the plus community has been to you. What is that story?

Ally: It was so amazing going to Full Figured Fashion Week and Curvy Con. I really admire plus size bloggers who have an impact in so many people’s lives. Nine years ago I tried to kill myself, and having the plus size community to turn to in that dark period of my life was really meaningful.

Natasha: What most empowers you?

Ally: My #1 source is singing. Whether it is musical theater, jazz, or blues, I go to singing. A close second, is definitely fashion.

Natasha: What are your tips to other struggling with their body image?

Ally: My biggest tip is that you are not alone in how you feel. There is a huge supportive community out there online, as funny as that sounds. Like I said earlier, it is okay to have good days and not so good days. Just remember, that life is worth living and you want to hang around to find the right people for you. If you don’t feel good about yourself, it is important to focus on the blessings you have in your life. You cannot control what others say or do. The only thing you can control is how you react to others.

Natasha: What are you favorite plus size resources?

Ally: I love Sarah Conley of Style IT. And, Eloquii has such beautiful clothing.

Natasha: Have you been bullied before?

Ally: Yes! I have been bullied since kindergarten. I remember being called Shamu at a pool party. The bullying occurred in elementary school, junior high, and high school. People who bully have their own securities. You can’t control what others say to you but you can control whether you give others energy to put yourself in a negative place. So, don’t do it.

Natasha: As an actor, do you feel pressured to lose weight or have insecurities about your weight?

Ally: I am fortunate to say I have never felt pressured to lose weight for any roles. I work for NBC Universal Studios. I am really blessed.

Natasha: What advice do you have for others being bullied?

Ally: If you feel uncomfortable, then you should tell someone about it. You can’t listen to what people are saying. As Eleanor Roosevelt said:

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

Natasha: If you could advise yourself at any age, when would that be? And, what would you say?

Ally: Anything I could say could potentially change the outcome of my life right now. I have learned from the bullying, eating disorder and it has lead to where I am in my life. So, I wouldn’t change that.

Natasha: What are 5 things people don’t know about you?

Ally:  1 – I am born and raised in Orlando, FL

2 – I am a total Doctor Who Nerd

3 – I own 1 pair of expensive shoes. Yes, I will wear my Christian Louboutin with a $30 dress

4 – My dog’s name is Sheldon Cooper

5 –  I am obsessed with Lush Bubble Bath

I hope you are just as excited as I am to see the great things Ally does as an actress and advocate for self love in the plus size community!

XOXO
