However, there is one special woman in my life who I have known and loved since I was 18 years old. Marcia McNair is my mother-in-law, mentor, Dressing Room 8 team member, and my personal nomination for the Christopher & Banks Amazing Women Contest!

I couldn’t imagine my life without having the guidance, support, and love of Marcia!

Marcia earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Dartmouth College and her master’s degree in Writing from New York University. She was an assistant editor at Essence Magazine and is currently a Professor of English and Journalism at Nassau Community College, one of the largest community colleges in the country, where she is co-coordinator of the African American Read-In Chain and a member of the Black History Month Committee and the Secretary for Black Women’s Initiative (a student retention program). In addition, she was an adjunct professor of English at Molloy College, where she taught African American Literature, for over five years. She served on the Uniondale Community Council Executive Board for two years. She is a former faculty advisor to the Women’s Center and the Human Relations Club at Nassau Community College. She established Aya Press Books in 2006 and Sistas on Fire Radio in 2010. And, she published the fantastic novel E-Males. Read more about Marcia McMair HERE.

As an educator, novelist, playwright, and poet she is an incredible resource for Dressing Room 8On top of her already hectic schedule, she is writing a second novel and building the Long Island Community Group Long Island Girl Talk.
