Mommy Chronicles: 6 Months Later

Today my beautiful, bold, and brilliant son KJ turns 6 months old!!! I am both amazed and shocked that 6 months ago he was an unapologetic fetus inside of my belly kicking my stomach all day long.Β

Typically, I share KJ updates on the innovative podcast WokeNFree that I co-host with my hubby. However, as a new mom, I need a space where I can share my lessons, wins, challenges, and insights. So, let’s discuss how these last 6 months have gone…

Month One: Hello, Baby

No one can prepare you for what it’s really like to have a baby. Once you are there, something really incredible happens. No matter how tired or drained you are from the birthing experience, all that matters is snuggling up with your pure little baby. After spending 2.5 excruciating days of being induced, it was determined that I needed to have a C-section. While I shivered uncontrollably from the meds during the procedure, all I could think about was meeting my son. Once I heard him cry, I burst into a puddle of tears of relief. My son was finally here. The first thing I said to my hubby was, “Is he okay?” Nothing has changed since that VERY precious moment. The very first and last thought of the day is about my son. I imagine this will be the case for the rest of my life.Β

Fast forward 30 days, KJ is one month old and I still can’t believe I am a mother and have this new beautiful life to nurture and look after!Β

Month Two: Sleep is for the Weak

When you tell people you have a newborn, folks usually share their empathy because of your “sleepless” nights. Is it that you go night after night without sleeping? Not necessarily. Before having KJ, I took for granted the joy of having continuous sleep of 5-6 hours a night. During this stage of motherhood, I had to work really hard not to be frustrated with sleeping 1-3 hours of sleep at a time πŸ™Β  This was another wonderful surprise as a new parent.Β

Month Three: Let's Dance

After 3 months, it finally felt like hubby and I were building a routine with KJ. He was waking up around the same time in the morning, eating around the same time during the day and it was exciting. As a Virgo, I crave routine and this part of the parenting journey was making my heart soar. The more I could plan during the day, the easier it was to manage daily responsibilities.Β

Month Four: Funny One

This was a very yummy stage for KJ. I tell everyone that KJ looks like my hubby but he acts like his MOM! He is a baby filled with a ton of unapologetic energy whose smile melts your heart. He loves to talk (just like ME) and is the renowned “Pipe Up King” in our home. If he is hungry, you will know. If he wants to play, you will know. Ultimately, this is KJ’s world and we just happen to live in it!Β

Month Five: Time to Laugh

Shortly after a beautiful Thanksgiving at home, KJ turned 5 months old. At this stage, he is determined to drink his weight in milk while operating a tablet. This little man is FUNNY! I believe my hubby and I are smart but KJ takes intelligence to a whole NEW level. Can you tell how in love I am with my son? KJ is the BEST!!!

Month Six: We Made It

I LOVE Christmas and this holiday was so special being that it was KJ’s very first Christmas. I couldn’t even count how many gifts he got and I look forward to using all his toys, clothes, and books well into 2022. Now, we are only 6 months away from KJ’s first birthday party. Stay tuned for upcoming Mommy Chronicles on the blog!Β
