Mommy Chronicles: 10 Things That Made My Year Shine

Happy Thanksgiving! In addition to all the eating, I hope you’re able to have some time this week to reflect on what you’re grateful for this year.

Being a mom is a journey filled with joy, challenges, and countless memorable moments. As 2023 comes to an end, it’s the perfect time to reflect upon the highs and lows and celebrate the 10 things that made this year truly shine for you (and me)!

#1 The Gift of Patience

No matter how hard it is, as a mom, we PAINFULLY learn patience is not just a virtue; it’s a necessity. This year has taught me the importance of learning the art of staying calm amidst chaos, embracing the unpredictability of motherhood, and finding solace in the journey itself. From sleepless nights to endless tantrums, every moment has been an INTERESTING opportunity to develop my patience and see personal growth.

#2 Watching Them Grow

One of the greatest pleasures of motherhood is witnessing our children grow and blossom. The past year has been a whirlwind of developmental milestones and accomplishments. My heart swells with pride as I witness my beautiful, bold, and brilliant KJ grow so much this year. And, it’s these moments that make all the sleepless nights and challenges ABSOLUTELY worthwhile.

#3 Discovering My Inner Strength

Motherhood has a unique way of unearthing the depth of our strengths and resilience. This year, I pushed past my limits and discovered a NEW inner strength I never knew existed within me. From the months of late-night disruptions, and weeks of sickness, to juggling multiple responsibilities, the challenges have only made me more determined and self-assured as a mother and woman.

#4 Cherished Moments of Bonding

Amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s crucial to cherish the moments of bonding with our children. Whether it’s reading bedtime stories, taking walks in the park, or engaging in imaginative play, these little moments serve as precious reminders of the beauty and magic of motherhood. This year has been a treasure trove of unforgettable bonding moments that have strengthened the bond between me and my sonshine. 🙂

#5 Learning to Let Go

If you haven’t figured it out already, so much of life is COMPLETELY out of your control. This year I’ve learned the importance of letting go and allowing my child to discover the world around him. Ceding control, while creating safe and nurturing environments, has allowed him to experience the beauty of discovery and develop a sense of self. This hasn’t been easy but oh so rewarding!

#6 Embracing Imperfections

Getting over perfectionism is a journey, like anything else in life. Sometimes, we may even feel like an imposter along the way. Ignore that negative inner voice! Remember, it’s okay to have messy hair days, a pile of laundry waiting to be folded, or even days where everything seems a bit chaotic. Embracing imperfections not only brings peace of mind but allows us to focus on what matters most, like spending time with our little ones. You can get to the chores LATER!

#7 Developing New Skills

This year, it’s been crystal clear that the learning never stops. Learning new skills, such as AI skills or improving my time management, has allowed me to become a stronger mother, content creator, and individual.

#8 Learning from Our Children

This year, I’ve learned many valuable lessons from my child, like the importance of living in the present, embracing curiosity, and finding joy in the simplest of things. It’s his innocence and pure outlook on life that have inspired me to approach each day with enthusiasm.

#9 Self-Care Amidst Chaos

No matter what’s going on in life, taking time for myself has allowed me to recharge, reflect, and truly be the best version of myself for my son. Whether it’s indulging in a relaxing bath, going for a long walk, or pursuing a hobby, self-care has become an integral part of my mommy routine.

#10 Gratitude for the Journey

At the end of the day, the journey of motherhood is one that should be celebrated, cherished, and honored. It’s definitely not an easy journey but I don’t know who I would be without my son.

This year, I’ve learned to appreciate the ups and downs, the challenges and triumphs, and the everyday moments that make being a mom truly extraordinary. Gratitude for the journey has allowed me to find joy in being present and anticipating the wonder that tomorrow brings.
